Outstanding Youth Fundraisers and Unsung Heroes

Each year, AFP Maryland honors community agents of philanthropy at its National Philanthropy Day Celebration.  National Philanthropy Day is celebrated nationally each year as a way of giving special recognition to those in our community who work to improve our world in every possibly way.  We thank Connelly & Assoc. Fundraising, LLC for being the Presenting Sponsor of our event this year.

Nominations must be submitted online by June 29, 2018. Nominees selected to receive an award will be notified in August 2018. Awards winners must be present to accept their award at the National Philanthropy Day luncheon on Wednesday, November 14, 2018  at the Baltimore Renaissance Harborplace Hotel.

The deadline for nominations is June 29.

Outstanding Youth Fundraisers

Do you know a young person who has done something good for their community? Would you like to see them recognized for their efforts? If you answered Yes to these questions, please submit a nomination form for the 2018 Outstanding Youth Fundraiser Awards! If you’ve attended this luncheon in the past, you know that the youth awards are a highlight of the event!

Please take a moment to think about any young people you know and the projects they are working on to help their community and those in need.  The Outstanding Youth Fundraiser Awards are given each year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Maryland Chapter to recognize school-age fundraisers who are actively engaged in projects to help their community.

Criteria used to select the award winners include:

  1. Evidence of quality of leadership and organizational abilities (0-20 points)
  2. Originality and creative thought of a project (0-20 points)
  3. Evidence that funds raised from the project within Maryland benefited a non-profit organization or community, locally, nationally or internationally.* (0-10 points)

*Applications for projects that involve collecting supplies or raising awareness should include an approximate monetary equivalent or detail how the project supported the organization’s fundraising efforts.

Successful past project examples include, but are not limited to aiding the homeless, supporting health, caring for the environment, and raising funds for disaster relief efforts.  (view list of last year's honorees)

Please use the online form  to nominate a young person or group of young people you know who may be qualified to win the Outstanding Youth Fundraiser Award.  Students in elementary school through high school are eligible. This does not mean students have to raise funds through a school-related project; students can be part of a scout troop, religious group or other club or organization, as well as a school.  Groups of students who worked together on a fundraising project can be nominated together. The non-profit organizations represented by the winners will receive a $250 donation from AFP Maryland.

Unsung Heroes

As part of this celebration, we take time to honor donors and volunteers whose gifts of time, expertise and resources contribute significantly to the success of the not-for-profit agencies and institutions they serve. This occasion is a unique opportunity for you and your organization to publicly express your appreciation for your own Unsung Hero

An Unsung Hero award is the chance to publicly honor those who do so much to enhance philanthropic support in our community who may not otherwise gain recognition. Please consider nominating an individual who has demonstrated exceptional commitment in volunteer and fundraising projects in years (or hours) benefiting your charitable organization.  Nominations should also demonstrate impact, as well as the ability to motivate others to support philanthropic causes.
