National Philanthropy Day, a program of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, pays tribute to the invaluable contributions that philanthropy has made to our personal lives, our nation, and the world. It acknowledges the entire spectrum of services provided by the nonprofit community and recognizes the profound impact that philanthropy has on the quality of our lives and the fabric of our society.

AFP Maryland is proud to recognize the great contributions of philanthropy and those people active in the philanthropic community. Through this annual event, we encourage all people to rededicate themselves to the principle of giving. Awards are presented in the following categories:

2019 Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year and  Outstanding Philanthropic Foundation of the Year

AFP Maryland is delighted to announce the selection of Robert E. Meyerhoff and Rheda Becker as 2019 Outstanding Philanthropists and the The Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Family Foundation as the 2019 Outstanding Philanthropic Foundation. True to the meaning of philanthropy, the Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year Award and the Outstanding Foundation of the Year Award both recognize the contribution of money, along with time and skill, to promote the well-being of others and the betterment of the community. Recipients and nominees of these awards exemplify the true spirit of giving. View list of past recipients

Outstanding Youth Fundraisers

Each year, AFP Maryland recognizes youth fundraisers who raise funds for their community. Criteria used to select the award winners include:

  1. Evidence of quality of leadership and organizational abilities
  2. Originality and creative thought of a project
  3. Evidence that funds raised from the project within Maryland benefited a non-profit organization or community, locally, nationally or internationally.

Morning Educational Program

AFP Maryland offers an outstanding morning program available exclusively to National Philanthropy Day attendees.  This year, we are pleased to offer three engaging morning programs:

9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.  (2 concurrent sessions)

Panel Discussion: Demystifying Major Donor Discovery Calls
Panelists: Kelly McGeehan, McGeehan Research; Pamela Lambert, University of Maryland School of Medicine; Michael Buccino,University of Maryland Baltimore County and Jeff Wilklow, Campbell & Company
