Session I: Exploitation vs. Empowerment in Storytelling

As fundraisers, we develop and craft stories to evoke feelings of emotion and to inspire generations of givers. When individuals are at the epicenter of these stories, often times the line between empowerment and exploitation subconsciously are blurred. Join Orlisha Fox, Manager of Development and Public Policy from Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, Inc., Jennifer McGinley from JLM Strategic Communications, and Andrea Martin of Andrea D. Martin Consulting LLC to discuss the difference between the two facets and how we as professionals have the responsibility to protect the images of the persons and missions we serve from an equity lens.

Presenters:

  • Orlisha Fox, Manager of Development and Public Policy- Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake, Inc.
  • Jennifer McGingley- CEO- JLM Strategic Communications
  • Andrea Martin- Principal of Andrea D. Martin Consulting, LLC

Session II: Missing Precedented Times

Without doubt, 2020 would rank as one of the most challenging of years in every aspect.  Affecting every person, household, community and organization, COVID-19 brought upon us all a most unprecedented time. Fundraising has also been dramatically impacted, challenging every nonprofit’s pre-conceived strategies, plans and activities.

In this session and panel discussion, we’ve invited fundraising executives, service providers and organizational leaders to share their experiences, perspectives and forward-looking plans to ensure organizational viability.

Panelists:

  • Margo Cook, CFP, CAP, CFRE, Director of Financial Planning One North Wealth Services
  • Meg Kimmel, EVP of Programs and External Affairs, Maryland Food Bank
  • Sarah Tedesco, EVP, DonorSearch
  • Beverly White-Seals, President and CEO, Community Foundation of Howard County
  • Moderated by Kristopher Sharrar, CFRE, Helping Up Mission

Session III: #DotheWork, Building Your DEI Framework: Phase One

In the wake of George Floyd, organizations have moved towards making diversity, equity and inclusion a priority in the workplace. With racial equity and DEI on the forefront of strategic planning, many organizations feel overwhelmed on where to start. Join Terri Hartwell Easter of the Easter Consulting to discuss building the initial framework and foundation for DEI implementation.

Presenter: Terri Hartwell Easter, Founder of T.H. Easter Consulting
