Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year and Outstanding Foundation of the Year

AFP Maryland is seeking nominations as we prepare to honor an Outstanding Philanthropist and Foundation in Maryland.  True to the meaning of philanthropy, the Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year Award and the Outstanding Foundation of the Year Award both recognize the contribution of money, along with time and skill, to promote the well being of others and the betterment of the community.  Recipients and nominees of these awards exemplify the true spirit of giving. View a list of previous honorees.

Each year, AFP Maryland honors community agents of philanthropy at its National Philanthropy Day Celebration.  National Philanthropy Day is celebrated nationally each year as a way of giving special recognition to those in our community who work to improve our world in every possibly way.  We thank Connelly & Assoc. Fundraising, LLC for being the Presenting Sponsor the Maryland Chapter’s event this year.

AFP Maryland, in partnership with the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and the Baltimore Business Journal, will host National Philanthropy Day on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the Baltimore  Renaissance Harborplace Hotel.

Guidelines for Submitting Nominations

  • Entries for this award must be received by Friday, June 1, 2018. Late entries will not be accepted.
  • Please contact your candidate before completing the application to ensure they are interested in receiving this public honor, and that they are able to attend and accept the award in person on November 14.
  • Narrative can be entered directly into the application.  This narrative should not exceed 2000 words.
  • Supporting documents are accepted, but should only enhance the narrative, not substitute for your application. The narrative should reference the supporting documents. Do not introduce new information with the supporting documents.
  • Supporting documents may include resumes, newspaper articles, letters of recommendation (limit 3), etc. All supporting documents must be submitted at the same time as the application.
  • Enumerate each criterion and address each one separately in narrative form. Entries will be judged on each of the criteria. Your narrative should include:
      1. Outline history of specific gift support to the nominating organization. (0-30 points)
      2. Outline history of specific gifts support to honor non-profits in Maryland other than the nominating organization. (0-15 points)
      3. Outline examples of specific gift support that stimulated other leadership gift support and philanthropy. (0-20 points)
      4. Describe impact of gifts on projects/campaigns to nominating organization. (0-15 points)
      5. Provide evidence of how philanthropy described above encouraged innovative methods to problem solving for the community. (0-10 points)
