2017 Fundraising Day in Maryland Conference

Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year: Raymond L. Bank

The Association of Fundraising Professionals Maryland Chapter is delighted to announce the selection of Raymond L. Bank as the 2017 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year.  Ray was nominated by the Baltimore Community Foundation.

Ray Bank was elected chair of the Baltimore Community Foundation Board of Trustees in 2012, just as the Board approved a strategic plan which called for a $100 million Campaign for BCF and Baltimore. Ray’s history of raising $50 million for Character, Leadership, Commitment: The Campaign for Gilman and for other organizations gave his fellow trustees and BCF staff confidence in his ability to lead BCF to a successful conclusion of a campaign whose goal was unprecedented in BCF’s history.  According to BCF, “As of June 2016, BCF celebrated a Campaign total of $103.7 million!  Though many were crucial in that incredible success, Ray’s role cannot be overstated.”

The one word that best describes Ray Bank’s involvement with nonprofit organizations is “depth.” When he makes a commitment to an organization, he goes full bore, serving on multiple committees, devoting an extraordinary amount of time, and taking his responsibilities extremely seriously.

  • Ray is currently on the Board of Overseers at the Baltimore School for the Arts.
  • Ray served as president of the Gilman School Board of Trustees from 2002-2006 after serving as a trustee for more than a decade.
  • Ray was an exceptional trustee for The Bryn Mawr School from 1998 - 2001, where he served on the school’s endowment and finance committee.
  • As a member of the Board of Trustees of the Maryland Zoo in the early 1990's, Ray and his wife Day chaired the zoo's signature fundraising event, the Zoomerang, raising over $100,000.

He has both an abiding love for Baltimore and a strong interest in finding ways for the private sector, including the private nonprofit sector, to serve larger public needs.

AFP Maryland will celebrate his achievements at the annual Fundraising Day in Maryland Conference’s Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser Award Luncheon, presented by Connelly & Assoc. Fundraising, LLC, on Monday, June 5 at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Baltimore Hunt Valley (formerly the Hunt Valley Inn)
